A walk to support Hospital Maria Middelares

Good friends and family members will accompany me as well for a couple of days. The main aim of "El Camino con Flo" is to support Dr. Vanderstraeten's Digestive Oncology team at the Maria Middelares Hospital in our very own hometown, Ghent.

The funds collected will be dedicated to elevating the patient experience and improving communication during the weekends, ensuring that the well-being of the patients is maximized at all times.

Your generous financial donation can make a huge difference. Donations are managed by the King Baudouin Foundation and will support gastro-oncology projects at Hospital Maria Middelares.

Our progress

Why this journey ?

You will be aware that my dearest wife Flo, after a long and lingering illness,  has passed away in February. Last summer Flo and I visited Le Puy-en Velay and both of us thought it was beautiful. It turned out to be our last trip together.

The cathedral with its steps to heaven, the black volcanic rock with the statue of Our Lady of France, it was there that our plan to walk to Compostella emerged.

Some days before she passed away I promised Florence I will walk the journey together with her.

1650km journey to arrive in Santiago de Compostella in two months

On 1st of September 2024 I put on my walking boots, get my backpack and I will start with many friends and family members our 1650km journey. I hope to arrive in Santiago de Compostella around 1st November or All Souls.

“I am sure she will stop every 5 minutes, ready with her camera to photograph insects and flowers left, right and centre, return to greet passers-by, and I will enjoy it, together with her.”
